Launching with the first 25 independent lab reviews

We test
the testers.

Independent, methodology-first reviews of laboratories and testing services. Scored on the things that actually change your results — not on who paid for placement.

How we score

Five criteria. Fixed weights. No exceptions.

Every lab is measured against the same rubric, and the rubric is public. If a score moves, you can see exactly which criterion moved it.

01 · 30%

Accuracy & accreditation

Proficiency scheme participation, accreditation scope, and how results compare to reference methods on blinded samples.

02 · 20%

Turnaround

Promised versus measured. We time real orders from sample receipt to report, and we publish the spread, not just the average.

03 · 20%

Transparency of methods

Are the assay, instrument, reference ranges and limits of detection stated on the report? Vague labs lose points here.

04 · 15%

Price clarity

The all-in cost of a result, including collection, shipping, re-tests and the fees that only appear at checkout.

05 · 15%

Reporting & support

Can a non-specialist read the report? Does someone qualified answer when a result is confusing or flagged?

Verdict: Excellent analytical quality with clearly stated methods. Loses ground on a collection fee that only appears at checkout and a turnaround that ran two days past the promise on a third of orders.

What a review looks like

Numbers you can trace back to a sample.

Every score on a card is backed by orders we placed, samples we sent, and reports we received. The illustrative card here shows the shape of it.

Blinded, paid orders

We buy the test like any customer. The lab does not know a review is underway.

Split samples

The same sample goes to a reference laboratory so accuracy is a measurement, not an impression.

Right of reply

Labs see the draft and their response is published alongside the review, unedited.

What we review

Twelve categories at launch.

From the hospital lab behind your blood results to the kit that arrives in a padded envelope.

Our rules

Independence is a process, not a promise.

£0

From the labs we review

No sponsorships, no paid placements, no affiliate commissions on the services we score. Revenue comes from readers and from clients who are never the subject of a review.

1

Rubric for everyone

The same five criteria and the same weights apply to a national reference lab and a start-up mail-in kit. The rubric changes only with a public changelog.

Corrections stay visible

If we get something wrong, the correction is published on the review with a date. We do not quietly rewrite history.

Early access

Be first to read the reviews.

One email when the first twenty-five reviews go live, then a short note when a lab you care about is scored. No drip campaigns.
